What are Unity developers?

Unity developers are professionals who use the Unity game engine to design, develop, and deploy interactive 2D and 3D content, such as video games, simulations, and virtual or augmented reality experiences. They are skilled in programming languages like C# and are knowledgeable about the Unity Editor and its tools. Unity developers often collaborate with artists, designers, and other programmers to create engaging and functional applications for various platforms, including mobile, PC, console, and web.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Unity Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Unity Developer, you need strong skills in C# programming, 3D/2D game development, and a solid understanding of computer graphics and mathematics, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with the Unity Engine, version control systems like Git, and experience with tools such as Visual Studio and asset management platforms are typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective teamwork are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for delivering high-quality interactive experiences, efficiently resolving technical challenges, and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.

Job description

The opportunity
At Unity, we're shaping the future of real-time 3D creation by making game development more accessible than ever. Our next-generation human-in-the-loop agentic AI-goal-directed, adaptive, and capable of reasoning and planning in dynamic environments-is redefining how creators bring their ideas to life.

Unity AI is built to democratize game development in the same way modern tools transformed video creation: if you have an idea, you can make a game-no steep learning curve, no bottlenecks-guided by an agent that plans, executes, and iterates with you. For professionals, we aim to deliver a step-change in efficiency with 10x productivity gains, faster iteration cycles, and richer creative exploration that unlocks entirely new forms of gameplay. As this vision scales, we expect a 10x-100x increase in high-quality games-and with it, a new era of digital entertainment where diverse voices, novel mechanics, and rapid experimentation redefine what's possible.

We're looking for a Staff Product Designer for the Unity AI team. You'll play a meaningful role as the design lead across our full AI product portfolio, working side-by-side with engineers and product managers to design the next generation of AI products for the gaming industry. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, startup-like environment where new products ship every other week. If you're a forward thinker who thrives in ambiguity, builds prototypes with code, and is passionate about games-this is your moment.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the design vision across Unity's AI product portfolio, identifying opportunities and proposing new initiatives that push our products forward
  • Build functional prototypes using code to rapidly validate ideas-going beyond wireframes to ship working concepts alongside engineers
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and engineering to shape roadmaps, flush out product ideas in detail, and represent design in planning meetings and design reviews
  • Lead multi-functional collaboration across teams (engine, editor, marketing, executives) to drive design consistency and elevate the overall user experience
  • Communicate vision through concept models, flows, and artifacts while being vocal about how our products should look, feel, and evolve

What we're looking for

  • Strong track record in Product Design, including 5+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing AI-native products (e.g., at companies building agentic AI, vibe coding tools, or similar)
  • Ability to build functional prototypes with code, not solely visual mockups in design tools
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, startup-like environments
  • Strong ownership mindset with effective written/verbal communication and ability to work effectively in multi-functional teams
  • Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product thinking from concept through implementation

You might also have

  • Passion for games and an understanding of the game creation process

Additional information

  • International relocation support is not available for this position
