The hourly range for this position is $22.00 - $31.00 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

About the Role
The HDD Apprentice supports directional drilling crews by performing labor-intensive field activities, assisting with equipment maintenance, and helping prepare job sites for underground utility installation. This position provides hands-on training and development toward advancement within HDD operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist HDD crews with daily construction activities.
  • Clean, grease, fuel, and inspect drilling equipment and support vehicles.
  • Load and unload tools, conduit, pipe, and job materials.
  • Dig entry pits, exit pits, and potholes as directed.
  • Assist with utility exposure and verification activities.
  • Support setup and breakdown of job sites.
  • Perform restoration activities including grading, backfill, and cleanup.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in safe operating condition.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
  • Attend required safety meetings and training programs.
  • Learn HDD operations, locating procedures, and utility installation practices.
  • Perform additional labor and support duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Construction or utility experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop within HDD operations.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • CDL permit preferred.
  • OSHA 10 preferred.

Physical Requirements (All HDD/Directional Bore Positions)
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and greater weights with assistance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work near moving equipment, excavations, and underground utility infrastructure.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and safely perform all essential job functions.
