Job description

Overview

Good Samaritan University Hospital is a 537- bed (including 100 nursing home beds) teaching hospital and a member of Catholic Health. With almost 900 physicians on staff, and a level I Trauma Center, we care for well over 100,000 patients annually across the south shore of Long Island. The Unit Clerk under the direction of the NM/ANM, coordinates and performs those duties necessary to manage and organize the nursing unit including reception and secretarial duties as well as accountability for accurate communication among the health care team.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining regulatory standards involving the medical record  
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as delegated by NM/ANM
  • Completes competencies needed to perform duties in a specific clinical (patient care) setting 

Requirements:

  • BLS or CPR/AED training required and accepted from only 1 organization: American Heart Association - BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED). No online programs from any organization will be accepted
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Keyboarding and clerical skills required and tested.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication and telephone skills required.Previous healthcare setting experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and complete assigned tasks is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to read, write and comprehend preferred.
  • Knowledge of hospital computer order entry systems preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong desire to work in a busy and challenging environment.
  • Prior clerical or Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
  • A computer/typing test will be administered to all applicants
Posted Salary RangeUSD $20.87 - USD $26.09 /Hr.
