Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Post Partum is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to postpartum patients, low-risk antepartum patients, and newborns. This role includes managing patients following vaginal or cesarean delivery, administering medications and blood products, and operating various medical devices. The nurse will also provide couplet care, support patients undergoing gynecological surgeries, and assist in nursery care transitions. Strong clinical skills and flexibility to float to NICU or Labor & Delivery units are essential, with a minimum of two years nursing experience required.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage patients undergoing tubal ligation, circumcision, and gynecological surgeries.
  • Provide couplet care and manage low-risk antepartum patients.
  • Transition nursery care and provide normal newborn care, including thermoregulation and glucose management.
  • Administer blood and blood products safely and effectively.
  • Operate and manage drains, epidural pumps, PCA pumps, syringe pumps, and wound vacs.
  • Administer medications such as heparin, insulin, and magnesium sulfate.
  • Deliver OB-GYN and post-operative care including postpartum readmissions.
  • Float to NICU or Labor & Delivery units as staffing needs require.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Strong clinical skills in postpartum, newborn, and OB-GYN care.
  • Ability to operate specialized medical equipment such as epidural and PCA pumps.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience in NICU or Labor & Delivery units.
  • Additional certifications related to maternal-child health.
  • Experience with couplet care and low-risk antepartum patient management.
Special Considerations:
  • Willingness to float between Mother-Baby, NICU, and Labor & Delivery units as needed.
  • Weekend shifts are required to meet staffing needs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment.
Scheduling:
  • Work schedule includes weekend shifts to support unit staffing.
  • Shift assignments may vary based on patient census and unit needs.
  • Flexibility to cover multiple related units as required.
