Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position will support the Team Leader by leading a team of people and coordinating activities to achieve business goals, through focusing on continuous improvement and promoting a team-based culture. A percentage of time will be spent supporting operational activities and the balance will be handling administrative functions.

Responsibilities:

 

Health & Safety/Security:

  • Ensure Environmental, Health & Safety requirements are met
    • Comply with Health & Safety policies and procedures
    • Identify & report hazards including near-misses, incidents, and accidents
    • Keep work areas clean and tidy.
  • Ensure through good communication and personal example that employees understand the objectives of Unipart’s safety policies and hold employees accountable if they are not following policies
  • Responsible for accident reporting and undertaking accident investigations with the assistance of the Health & Safety Manager when necessary. Implement appropriate preventative action using tools learned through Health & Safety trainings. 
  • Responsible for the issue, use and maintenance of personal protective equipment provided to employees where necessary. 
  • Monitor the correct use of personal protective equipment & material handling equipment. Coach employees in the correct use and hold employees accountable when not following proper procedures.
  • Ensure secure measures are in place and proper guidelines followed to ensure the safeguard of Unipart/Client inventory. Report anything suspicious immediately to your Manager, the H&S Manager and Human Resources. 


Operational

  • Ensure health & safety, housekeeping and security standards are maintained for your assigned area of operation 
  • Achieve and demonstrate steps to exceed business targets including but not limited to efficiency levels, accuracy levels, product damage and stock integrity. Awareness of Key Performance Indicators’ and how they are calculated 
  • Allocate work based on resource planning provided by Team Leader and monitor throughout the day
  • Use of MHE such as: Forklift, Reach truck, Sit-down counter balance, High level order picker, (Cherry picker)
  • Raise any issues with resource planning and/or meeting KPI’s with your Manager as soon as practicable
  • Awareness of indirect versus direct hours and manage accordingly; ensure employees are working within the hours set for them 
  • Manage the use of additional resources with the agreement of your manager such as additional hours, overtime, agency or temporary staff within limits set by the Ops Manager or DC Manager
  • Ensure that through the effective control of resources all operational deadlines and standards within area of responsibility are met
  • Feedback results of any change to the team
  • Facilitate team meetings and raise team’s awareness on critical issues surrounding performance 
  • Ensure that visual management tools are updated and being used in the correct way so that the benefit is recognized
  • Establish a positive working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Ensure Customer Service requests are resolved in a timely fashion and through the proper channels
  • Responsible for daily reports & Standard Operating Procedures 
  • Provide support on client tours and new business activities

People Management:

  • Ensure that all DCO’s are trained and coached to a high standard 
  • In some instances, the ATL will be responsible for preparing and delivering the DCO appraisal form on a biannual basis. Liaising with HR as needed.
  • In some instances, the ATL will be responsible for preparing and delivering corrective action notices
  • Support Team Leader in delivering a development plan
  • Monitoring attendance & performance and highlighting any issues to Manager. Ensuring that issues are addressed. 
  • Ensuring compliance with company disciplinary procedures and seeking advice when necessary
  • Lead teams by example, actively engage staff in conversation on the warehouse floor
  • Work with appropriate parties to provide solutions to team issues taking account the appropriate policies and ethical practice.
  • Knowledgeable in company policies and handbook to ensure compliance 


General Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate handover of information to covering Managers
  • Ensure all staff issues are responded to in an appropriate and professional manner
  • Ensure clear and concise instructions or provided to staff
  • Actively question team members to test their understanding of what is being asked without giving the answer to them

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • 1-2 years of previous supervisory experience highly desirable
  • 1+ years of industry experience
  • Level 2 on the 5 core competencies in Unipart Way 
  • High School graduate
  • Knowledge of all SAP functions/transactions in working area
  • Basic experience of Microsoft Excel, ability to fill in Excel files
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work individually under his/her initiative
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload and take ownership of processes
  • Ability to take care of the customers’ needs 
  • Ability to deal with conflict

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to lift, climb, bend, twist, stoop for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk the entire floor for the length of shift and stand for long periods of time
  • Must be capable of occasionally lifting a minimum of 30 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job.
