This supportive structure can lead to enhanced job security and a strong sense of community among colleagues.

What is a union software engineer?

A Union Software Engineer is a software developer who is part of a labor union that advocates for fair wages, job security, and better working conditions. They perform the same technical tasks as other software engineers, such as coding, debugging, and system design, but with added protections and benefits negotiated by their union. These unions help ensure transparent employment policies, collective bargaining power, and support for workplace issues. Unionized software engineers may work in various industries, including tech companies, government agencies, and nonprofits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review employee timecards in HCSS for accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure compliance with state hour laws, prevailing wage requirements, and applicable union agreements
  • Identify and resolve timekeeping discrepancies in coordination with supervisors and field personnel
  • Export payroll data from HCSS and reconcile with accounting software
  • Assist with payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate wage payments
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports (including prevailing wage reports)
  • Complete union reports and related fringe benefit reporting as required
  • Maintain payroll documentation and support audit requests
  • Submit payroll taxes to ADP for filing
  • Assist Payroll Manager with special projects and reporting as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree (AA) in related field, or equivalent applicable work experience
  • 2+ years of payroll or accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with HCSS or construction payroll systems preferred
  • Knowledge of multi-state labor laws and wage/hour compliance
  • Experience with union payroll agreements and/or certified payroll
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $27.00/Hr. - USD $32.00/Hr. depending on experience and qualifications.
