A Union Security job typically involves working as a security officer under a contract that is protected by a labor union. These security professionals ensure the safety of people, property, and assets while benefiting from union-negotiated wages, benefits, and working conditions. Union security officers often work in various settings, such as commercial buildings, industrial sites, and government facilities. Being part of a union provides job security, collective bargaining rights, and potential career growth opportunities.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a union security?

Union Security officers are typically responsible for monitoring entry points, conducting regular patrols of union facilities, and responding promptly to any security incidents or emergencies. They often check credentials, enforce safety policies, document incidents, and liaise with union staff, members, and local law enforcement as needed. Officers may also support crowd control and ensure order during union meetings or events. This role involves both independent work and close collaboration with union leadership to uphold safety and compliance standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in union security, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Union Security officer, you need a solid understanding of security protocols, workplace safety, and labor regulations, typically supported by experience in security or law enforcement. Familiarity with surveillance systems, access control software, and first aid/CPR certifications is often required. Strong observation skills, integrity, and the ability to communicate effectively in high-pressure situations are essential soft skills.
