PRIMARY FUNCTION:
In this position you will perform traffic control and flagging activities as needed; follow safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devices. Duties may vary according to job assignment. The candidate should think clearly, no matter the stress or difficulty of circumstances. You will interact with public, supervisors, and coworkers professionally at all times. This position reports directly to the Paving Foreman.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
  • Be physically able, mentally alert, and capable of giving directions to the motoring public;
  • Guide traffic safely through the work area;
  • Protect the lives of workers;
  • Avoid unreasonable delays to motorists;
  • Answer motoring public questions courteously and intelligently;
  • Wear approved safety apparel for flagging such as hard hat and safety vest while flagging;
  • Maintain a clean and neat appearance and will not distract motorists;
  • Must be able to safely drive a car and/or pickup guiding traffic through construction zone;
  • Report any problems to your manager;
  • Assist construction / paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking and running wheelbarrow;
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials;
  • Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site;
  • May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer;
  • Dig, spread and level construction materials;
  • Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies;
  • Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control; and
  • Perform any other general duties as specified

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical.
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
  • Report to work at the designated start time.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. This job is for a portable paving crew requiring extensive travel.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Be able to work overtime when required.
  • Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements.
  • Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Must be able to physically stand long periods of time and use traffic control devices for extended period of times.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
  • Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.
  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
