Job description

Description

This role is an entry level opportunity to gain exposure to working in our shipyard. We're looking for individuals who are eager to be a part of a growing company! 


The General Laborer role provides crucial assistance to the crew of a vessel. 


The schedule for this position is Monday-Thursday, 6:00-4:30 pm, and Friday 6:00-12:00 p.m. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manually lifting and carrying loads to and from boats and perform tasks involving bending, kneeling and stretching. 
  • Perform general yard maintenance and housekeeping tasks. 
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and tidy working environment ensuring discarded packaging and other debris are cleared away.
  • Transport products, supplies and mechanical equipment to various areas of the yard including the warehouse and tool rooms.
  • Cleaning out and preparing work areas, including removing debris, dirt, and residue from welds
  • Manually handling of steel.
  • Assist with unloading of various materials.
  • Helping the hull foreman as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or management. 

Qualifications:

  • Prior shipyard or similar experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in an industrial setting preferred.
  • High School Diploma preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and push heavy objects up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to conduct production in confined spaces.
  • Physical agility and dexterity to perform tasks such as bending, squatting, stooping, crawling and kneeling.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments, including both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Ability to conduct production from heights greater than five feet while working from manlifts and wearing the proper PPE such      as fall arrest systems. 
  • Ability to climb ladders and transverse stairs when needed.
  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.

Work Environment:

The employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The employee could be exposed to environments that have high noise levels.

Must comply with company, state, federal, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations while performing job tasks as assigned by leadership.
