What we are looking for:

ODF is looking for a Natural Resource Specialist 2 (Community Wildfire Forester) to provide on-the-ground and administrative process coordination and leadership to fuels reduction projects.

These goals and associated duties include:

  • Serves as a liaison with rural fire districts, extension agents, local governments, and various other partners while providing technical forest management, fire planning, and fuels reduction advice and education to private landowners.
  • Develops and maintains project and expenditure tracking systems; documents field progress using GPS and GIS.
  • Writes and submits grant proposals and administers existing federal fuel-related grants.
  • Conducts fieldwork for grant projects, including landowner outreach, property assessments, project verification, and processing reimbursements.
  • Supports District fire program needs, including staffing and participation in offDistrict assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in Forestry or a closely related natural resource field, AND a bachelor's degree in forestry or a closely related natural resource field; OR

Three additional years of related (pertinent) experience; OR

One year of experience in Forestry or a closely related natural resource field AND a master's degree in forestry or a closely related natural resource field; OR

A Doctorate degree in Forestry or a closely related natural resource field.

Note: Driver's License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for official State business. As part of the hiring process, the agency uses Advanced Reporting LLC to conduct all required DMV and CDL drivingrecord checks. Advanced Reporting LLC will obtain and review the driving record for the top candidate to verify possession of a valid license and an acceptable driving record.
