Job description

Description Provides complex and technical support and systems administration for a Local Government organization. Accountable for independently performing a full range of information technology tasks and project coordination work involving infrastructure systems support, security and application management in an IT environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.

Overall Acts as a liaison to hardware and software vendors and user community. Evaluates and recommends products and opportunities for cost saving and technology enhancement. Conducts system performance analysis, tuning and storage management.

Trains and assists staff and customers in the use of computer systems, software packages and new procedures. Provides technical consultation on moderately complex issues regarding the usage of infrastructure integration of applications systems, etc. Participates in system integration testing of operating systems, system utilities, hardware upgrades as well as new software and hardware technologies.

Plan, coordinate and complete assigned projects. Recommends and creates action plans for system development and/or integration. Assists in maintaining documentation and manuals necessary at operational level.

Systems Administration Provides system support, troubleshooting, security management and audit reporting when necessary. Coordinates backups and file management with IT staff. Network Administration Performs functions associated with vulnerability and security risk assessments.

Performs functions in support of investigative and forensics activity. Maintains host and front-end processor communications software. Provides support for network connectivity.

Ability to diagnose network problems utilizing traces, hardware diagnostics tools, software aids and network management system utilities. IT Security Assists in developing, testing and maintaining organization Disaster Recovery Plans. Assists with development and support of IT Business Continuity Planning.

Performs functions in support of risk analysis of IT environments by assessing administrative, technical and physical safeguards. Assists with IT investigations to include maintaining privacy, performs forensics and documenting detailed reports. Monitors network activity for malicious activity.

Assemble, install, configure, inventory, maintain, diagnose, and correct issues within the Town's computer network, workstations, and computer firmware, hardware, and software components. VMWare or hypervisor experience required. Networking concepts, switch/router and firewall configuration.

PC Imaging technology. Familiarity with MS SQL or RDMBS Printer maintenance and administration Report creation CompTIA certification Troubleshoot network problems. Assemble and configure network components and associated services.

Set up and maintain basic network operations, including assembly of network hardware. Provide application and networking support. Provide users with network technical support.

Manage and troubleshoot server and application issues. Assist with desktop end-user software support as needed. Administration for Town applications such as M365 System, ERP (Munis) Administration, Zoom, etc.

Provide users with Computer and network technical support. Manage and troubleshoot servers and backup programs. Install and test necessary software and hardware.

Train users when appropriate. Perform related work as required. Assist with desktop and end-user support as needed.

Keep ITSM and Service Desk queues up to date daily Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree (A, A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school in Computer Programming, Information Systems, or a related field; and three years' experience in PC network support, three years' experience in programming in a procedural language; some experience with heterogeneous Ethernets that include minicomputers and PC's, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. (CIS and municipal government computer application experience preferred.) Selection Process All appointments and promotions shall be made according to merit and fitness for performing the functions of the position, including factors such as education, experience, aptitude, knowledge, character, ethics, or other qualifications that would determine the best candidate for the position. Examinations may include written, oral, physical, or performance tests or any combination of the various types of examinations
