Mark Thomas has an immediate opening for a Chainperson or Apprentice to join our growing Survey team! The Chain Person or Apprentice reports to the Party Chief and performs various field surveying tasks and travel throughout our regional job sites. The ideal candidate is a team player who is self-motivated, and an early riser open to opportunities for overtime.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Holds level rod or distance meter reflector at designated points to assist in determining elevation allocation for map making, construction, land and other surveys
  • Marks measuring points with keel, paint, sticks, scratches, tacks, stakes, or monuments.
  • Measures distance between survey points, using Surveyors' tapes or electronic distance measuring equipment
  • Places stakes at designated points and drives them into ground, sometimes at specific elevation, using sledgehammers
  • Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey using brush book, knife, ax, or other cutting tools
  • Obtains data pertaining to angles, elevations, control points, and contours used for map making, construction, or other purposes

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A current member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 3
  • Enrolled in, or successful completion of the Survey Apprenticeship program through respective union
  • Must have a valid CA Driver's License; ability to operate the survey vehicle and meet Company driver eligibility requirements
  • Experience using Chain Person tools to include levels, total stations, reflectors, rods, surveyors' tapes, plumb bob, hammers, hatchets, machetes, shovels, picks, chisels, drills
  • Understanding of field safety practices in various environments

Compensation for this position is subject to California state prevailing wage rate determinations and the provisions of our collective bargaining agreement with the OE3.

The successful candidate selected for hire will need to submit to a background check due to client relationship responsibilities and interactions required for this position following the extension of a conditional offer.
