Job description

The Virginia Property Insurance Association has an open underwriting supervisor position for the right candidate. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of dwelling and commercial property programs with a desire for continued professional development. This individual should be well organized and must effectively communicate with co-workers, policyholders and producers. This position is responsible for the supervision of underwriting staff including providing technical support, training and guidance to underwriting personnel related to the eligibility, insurability and rating of submitted business to maintain quality production standards.


The underwriting supervisor position oversees daily department functions to ensure that all aspects of the underwriting process are performed in accordance with the Association's rules, regulations and procedures. This individual will monitor the work the product of vendors, provide input regarding updates to underwriting documents, as well as communicate with the Bureau of Insurance regarding underwriting inquiries. It is necessary for the underwriting supervisor to effectively communicate with policyholders, producers and regulators regarding underwriting related matters. The underwriting supervisor will work with Association partners to implement projects focused on automation and efficiency and preforms any additional duties as assigned.


High School degree required. College degree preferred. Must have a minimum of five years of related experience including a minimum of five years of rating and fire underwriting experience. Must have excellent math and communication skills.
