Job description

Overview:

We are seeking experienced Underground Utility Construction Foreman with a background in Civil/Public Works projects for projects located in Southern California. We are a general engineering contractor and we specialize in Public Works. We have completed projects all over Southern California such as civil work, underground utilities, landscaping, earthwork, ADA improvements, asphalt, concrete, paving, electrical work and modernization of existing facilities. The ideal candidate has previous civil construction experience, takes initiative, is adaptable, and wants to grow in the construction field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to install all types of sewer, water, fire and storm drain systems
  • Study and fully understand blueprints, specs, job site conditions and P&L reports to plan effective procedures for construction
  • Perform required takeoffs and calculations to enable proper purchasing and scheduling of materials, equipment, subcontractors and labor for project management
  • Able to calculate and set proper grades and elevations (i.e. laser, flowliner, etc.)
  • Utilize P&L reports to effectively record production and manage projects
  • Record and process accurate asbuilt drawings
  • Complete and process accurate daily logs, timecards and field work orders on time
  • Complete and process required project documents, incident and HR reports on time
  • Effectively utilize smart phones, laptops and software to communicate and share information
  • Effectively interact with Superintendents and governing authorities to complete project requirements
  • Possess leadership skills required to effectively coordinate and manage crew to complete project objectives on time
  • Oversee, manage and ensure field operations comply with company policies and OSHA safe practices
  • Maintain orderly job site and keep crew truck clean and efficient
  • Able to identify potential safety and operational deficiencies and adjust/correct accordingly
  • Able to operate excavator, loader and backhoe if required according to OSHA safe practices
  • Assist in development/training of coworkers and assist personnel in completing their Action Plan Goals
  • Conduct and manage team member development reviews to measure field personnel growth and progress

  • As the Working Underground Utility Foreman, you will be responsible for leading and managing a crew of skilled workers in the installation, repair, and/or maintenance of underground utilities
  • You will be required to operate heavy equipment, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time and under budget
  • You will also be responsible for communicating with clients, inspectors and other stakeholders, providing updates on project progress and addressing any concerns that arise
  • Operate heavy equipment and machinery, such as excavators, and backhoes, to excavate trenches, lay pipes, and backfill excavations
  • Read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and other technical documents
  • Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies
  • Supervise and train crew members, ensuring that they are working safely and efficiently
  • Coordinate Equipment, Crew and Material Needs with project management team
  • Manage project schedules, ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget
  • Provide on time and complete paperwork, reports, and status updates
  • Assure that all company vehicles, tools and equipment utilized on the job site are maintained in a clean condition and all tools are accounted for at the end of each day
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and mentoring skills
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required
  • Underground Working foreman must have at least (6) years of experience as a underground utilities foreman and at least (10) years experience in the trade
  • MUST be able to lay pipe as this position is for a WORKING foreman
  • Must be very detailed and organized
  • Experience in operating heavy equipment and machinery, such as excavators, backhoes, and trenchers
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and other technical documents
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage project schedules and budgets
  • Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Communications: Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English
  • Hearing: Hearing adequate to perform job duties in person
  • Speaking: Able to communicate clearly in person and over phone
  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties as indicated
  • Physical: Requires frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, squatting, sitting, pushing and pulling heavy objects regularly throughout the work shift

  • Requires manual dexterity to operate equipment and perform manual tasks
