Senior Underground Utilities Estimator - TalentZök

Immediate opening for a Senior Underground Utilities Estimator in Murrieta, CA who possesses:

  • Ability to independently estimate complex underground utility projects
  • Experience with HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software preferred


FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Senior Underground Utilities Estimator to develop accurate and competitive estimates for underground utility and heavy civil construction projects. This permanent, onsite role is responsible for managing estimates from initial plan review through final bid submission and project handoff, including quantity takeoffs, labor and equipment costing, subcontractor and vendor quote review, bid preparation, constructability review, and estimate-to-operations handoff. The ideal candidate will have strong underground utility and heavy civil estimating experience, excellent knowledge of construction means and methods, and the ability to independently estimate complex projects involving storm drain, sewer, water, excavation, shoring, structures, and associated civil work.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing plans, specifications, addenda, geotechnical reports, and contract documents
  • Performing detailed quantity takeoffs for underground utilities and related civil work
  • Developing labor, equipment, material, trucking, subcontractor, and disposal costs
  • Establishing crew compositions, production rates, equipment requirements, and construction sequencing
  • Evaluating excavation depths, shoring, dewatering, soil conditions, utility conflicts, access, and constructability
  • Soliciting and evaluating subcontractor, supplier, and vendor quotations
  • Identifying scope gaps, project risks, bid requirements, and cost-saving opportunities
  • Preparing complete estimates, bid schedules, unit prices, assumptions, and qualifications
  • Participating in final bid reviews and recommending pricing and bid strategy
  • Maintaining historical costs and production data to improve estimating accuracy
  • Providing complete estimate-to-operations handoffs for awarded projects
  • Supporting accurate, competitive, and complete bids for underground utility and heavy civil construction work
  • Communicating professionally with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and leadership
  • Supporting residential construction and underground utilities projects, including sewer, water, and drainage work
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • 5+ years of underground utility or heavy civil estimating experience required
  • 5 to 10 years of construction estimating experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of storm drain, sewer, water, excavation, shoring, backfill, structures, and restoration required
  • Ability to independently estimate complex underground utility projects required
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, equipment, crews, and production rates required
  • Proficiency in reading civil plans, profiles, specifications, and geotechnical information required
  • Experience with HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software preferred
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam required
  • Proficiency with Excel required
  • Construction takeoff software experience required
  • Experience developing labor, equipment, material, trucking, subcontractor, and disposal costs
  • Experience evaluating excavation depths, shoring, dewatering, soil conditions, utility conflicts, access, and constructability
  • Experience preparing bid schedules, unit prices, assumptions, and qualifications
  • Experience participating in final bid reviews and supporting bid strategy
