What is an Ulu?

An Ulu is a traditional all-purpose knife originating from the Indigenous peoples of the Arctic, particularly the Inuit, Yupik, and Aleut communities. It features a distinctive curved blade and a handle positioned above the blade, which allows for efficient chopping, slicing, and skinning motions. Traditionally, Ulus were used for food preparation, cutting hair, and even crafting tools or clothing. Today, Ulus are still widely used in Arctic communities and are also valued as cultural symbols and practical kitchen tools around the world.
