Job description

Job Description This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Provide Direct Medical Care and Assessments for Incarcerated Individuals (I/Is) Complete I/I intake physicals and clinic at IMCC and other DOC facilities as delegated by the DOC Medical Director.

Provide medical screening, including assessments of acute or chronic medical health problems, obtaining health and psychosocial history, performing complete physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests (labs, x-rays, EKGs, or referrals to off-site specialists at UIHC). Treat I/Is' acute injuries, including suturing lacerations or addressing emergent situations as they occur. Perform annual physical examinations as required by DOC policy, identifying and diagnosing newly found health problems.

Monitor chronic medical diseases of I/Is as identified in the ICON medical system per DOC policy. Assess and monitor I/Is' deteriorating medical conditions, corresponding with the DOC Medical Director for possible transfer to UIHC. Be present during scheduled Telemed appointments to communicate medical knowledge and assessments to UIHC practitioners for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Monday- Friday position Minimum Qualification Requirements Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of an internship program and licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.
