Job description

Overview

We are seeking a highly knowledgeable Lease Accounting Specialist with deep expertise in ASC 842 and strong command of general ledger structures to support clients using our lease accounting software. This role serves as a subject-matter expert for all ASC 842-related questions, provides accounting guidance to customers, assists in troubleshooting lease scenarios within the software, and communicates evolving accounting requirements to the software development team.

The ideal candidate combines technical accounting proficiency, excellent customer communication skills, and the ability to translate accounting standards into actionable system enhancements.


Key Responsibilities

Client Support & Advisory (ASC 842)

  • Serve as the primary accounting resource for clients needing guidance on ASC 842 lease classification, ROU asset and liability calculations, amortization schedules, incentives, options, and remeasurements.
  • Review client lease data and assist with complex lease setups or accounting scenarios within the software.
  • Troubleshoot accounting discrepancies, validate lease calculations, and provide clear guidance on how issues should be resolved in accordance with GAAP.
  • Provide consultation on general ledger mapping, journal entry outputs, and integration best practices.
  • Lead client discussions, training sessions, and walkthroughs on lease accounting features and reporting.

Software & Product Collaboration

  • Stay current on updates to ASC 842, emerging interpretations, and regulatory changes.
  • Translate new accounting requirements into functional software needs for the product and development teams.
  • Review upcoming features and releases to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Participate in UAT (user acceptance testing) for new functionality impacting lease accounting.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to improve calculation logic, reporting, and usability from an accounting perspective.

Internal Expertise & Knowledge Sharing

  • Prepare internal documentation, training materials, and knowledge base content related to ASC 842.
  • Advise cross-functional teams (Client Services, Implementation, QA, Sales) on accounting best practices and system capabilities.
  • Assist in standardizing processes for lease accounting reviews, data validation, and onboarding support.
  • Help identify recurring client issues and recommend product or process improvements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or progress toward CPA a plus
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 1 years in ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Strong technical understanding of US GAAP, lease classification, discount rates, ROU assets/liabilities, and general ledger interactions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and explain complex concepts to non-accountants.
  • Experience working with or supporting accounting/lease management software is highly advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills with the ability to simplify complex accounting topics.
  • Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Excel and comfort working with large datasets.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in SaaS, software support, or product-facing accounting roles.
  • Familiarity with multi-entity GL structures and system integrations.
  • Experience with IFRS 16 is a plus.
  • Prior involvement in product development discussions or requirements gathering.
