Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTIONย 

Oversight of mail handling activities and employees at the station to provide the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement of mail. Guides, manages, and/or influences a group of Aloha Air Cargo employees in safe mail handling operations. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the Companyโ€™s policies, contracts, and applicable laws.ย  ย Performs the following duties personally or through subordinates and contract agents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

1. Applicant will be required to review and assess a variety of mail operations including local and outer island mail handling processes, USPS tender procedures, suppliers, and determine compliance to Aloha Air Cargo or USPS contracts.

2. Maintains and continuously improves the level of service provided to the customer.

3. Applicant will regularly work and communicate with cargo agents handling mail, other managers/supervisors, and other representatives throughout the internal Aloha Air Cargo network. Regular communication with internal airline manager/supervisors, USPS and technical or material supply vendors necessitate appropriate responsiveness in all communications.

4. Applicant may be required to work irregular hours and during non-contiguous blocks of time that span a 24 hour period in order to ensure timely response to various operational reviews, mail flow evaluations, and ground/ramp operations assessment, employee mail handling performance.ย ย 

5. Applicant must be capable of meeting requirements for ramp identification badge for access to USPS mail staging and cargo operations.ย  Inability to meet the appropriate local or federal requirements for access to mail-handling areas will disqualify an employee, during the temporary employment period.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

1. Applicant will manage and guide multiple employees in the performance of their work, monitor time-and-attendance practices, conduct periodic performance evaluations, ensure safe work practices are adhered with, and provide appropriate correction when necessary.

2. Applicant may confront challenging work situations or problems with a variety of solutions that will necessitate an appropriate escalation.ย  Effective use of communication skills and collaboration techniques, leadership and decision-making, various team-building techniques are preferred. Skill in integrating email, telephone, and document writing are critical for success in this position.ย 

Minimum Qualifications:

โ€ข High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

โ€ข Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations.

โ€ข Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals.

โ€ข Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, subordinates or other employees, customers and the general public.

โ€ข Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

โ€ข Applicant should possess a fundamental understanding of material handling principles as they apply to mail and cargo air-transport, analysis of mail handling, transportation expense, budget and cost considerations for existing, new, or modified schedules and/or process changes.

โ€ข Must be able to manage multiple priorities.

โ€ข Applicant must be able to demonstrate familiarity with Domestic USPS Mail operations including: USPS dispatch, airline acceptance, scanning requirements, and the relationship between these processes.

โ€ข Applicant should identify familiarity with scan technology, specifically as it relates to Mail operations.

โ€ข Applicant should be familiar with Vmail application for managing, documenting and tracking mail shipments.

โ€ข Applicant must possess moderate critical thinking skills and applied problem solving techniques, with a focus on mail transportation and logistics.

โ€ข Applicant must be able to use MS Word, Excel with the ability to integrate both into a variety of communication methods.

Physical Demands:

โ€ข The work is classified as โ€œlightโ€ with regards to the physical demands.

โ€ข Lifting requirements:ย  Heavy boxes weighing more than 25lbs pounds regularly and up to 75lbs occasionally.ย  Pushing and pulling occasionally.

โ€ข Climbing may be required up and down low step ladders, stooping may be necessary as is kneeling and crouching.

โ€ข Reaching to the top of file cabinets or shelves is required; materials handled will consist of general office supplies and copy machine toner and ink.ย  Fingering is required for pages in books, computer print outs, documents to be filed, keyboards on computers, typewriters, calculators, copy machines, fax machines and telephones.

โ€ข Talking may be required at least 75% of the day; use of talking on the phone at least 50% of the day.ย  Reciprocal communication is required at least 75% of the day.ย  Good vision is required to process reports, data input; read correspondence and proof read documents and letters being sent out.ย  Good hearing is required to communicate on the phone, conduct training and while attending meetings.
