Developers in this role write scalable, maintainable code and collaborate with teams to build robust software solutions.

What does a TypeScript developer do?

TypeScript Developers are primarily responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable web applications using TypeScript and modern JavaScript frameworks. Their daily tasks often include writing clean, type-safe code, participating in code reviews, debugging and optimizing applications, and collaborating closely with UX/UI designers, backend developers, and quality assurance teams. They also play a role in implementing new features, updating existing functionality, and ensuring projects meet best practices in code quality and testing. This collaborative environment helps integrate different parts of the application and keeps the development process efficient and well-coordinated.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the TypeScript position?

To thrive as a TypeScript Developer, you need strong programming skills in JavaScript and TypeScript, along with a solid understanding of modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js, and a relevant computer science degree or equivalent experience. Job description

About Overwatch: Overwatch Imaging is an imagery intelligence technology company working to bring sensor autonomy to time-critical airborne search, detection, tracking and monitoring missions. Our Automated Sensor Operator (ASO) software, native to our own line of purpose-built Smart Sensors and as an upgrade for airborne video gimbal platforms, brings Superhuman Vision and Workload Reduction to users of real-time imagery intelligence systems. We fundamentally believe that modern edge processing and AI-enabled autonomy can perform an important set of time-critical imagery intelligence missions better, faster, and more safely than humans can alone.

Founded in 2016 in Hood River, Oregon, we support private sector companies as well as federal, state and local agencies around the world with missions ranging from wildfire mapping and disaster response to law enforcement, border security, maritime domain awareness and tactical intelligence.

About this Role:

As a Senior Front-End Developer at Overwatch Imaging, you'll be a critical player in our development team, working closely alongside designers and fellow front-end engineers. You'll build and maintain feature-rich, modern web interfaces using frameworks like React, provide thoughtful technical feedback, and play an influential role in defining architecture. Bonus points if you bring experience with mapping libraries like Mapbox.

Please note: this is an on-site position at our headquarters in Hood River, Oregon.

What You'll do:
  • Collaborate closely with designers and other front-end developers to transform mockups, wireframes, and visual designs into polished UI experiences.
  • Implement rich, responsive, and performant front-end features with modern frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular), as well as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peer developers to maintain quality and consistency
  • Plus: Leverage experience with map libraries (e.g., Mapbox, Leaflet, etc) to support geographically focused UI features
  • Optimize front-end performance through tooling (e.g., Webpack, Vite), code splitting, lazy loading, SSR, and accessibility best practices
  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX and smooth integration of requirements
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to shaping frontend architectural vision, maintainability, and best practices
  • Proactively identify and elevate risks, and communicate early to anticipate issues impacting delivery timelines
What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of front-end development experience - proven expertise building complex, scalable UIs
  • Deep knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Hands-on experience with modern frameworks such as React (preferred), Angular, or Vue.js
  • Skilled with build tools and optimizations including bundlers, lazy loading, SSR, and performance tuning
  • Experience reviewing and maintaining code, enforcing best practices and architectural standards
  • Strong collaboration skills - able to interface effectively with designers, PMs, and backend developers
  • Bonus if experienced with mapping libraries like Mapbox, Leaflet, or similar
Optional but Valuable
  • Familiarity with CI/CD integration, accessibility (a11y), security practices, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Prior work on performance at scale, or contributions to internal frontend architecture standards
Character Attributes:
  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, venture-backed startup business environment
  • Motivates and inspires teammates by demonstrating a prodigious work ethic
  • Collaborates well in a small team environment with teammates and customers
  • Enjoys hands-on work, learning new skills, and taking responsible risks
  • Takes pride in seeing new products reach operational use quickly
What You'll Gain
  • Ownership of high-impact, UI-centric projects alongside designers and engineers
  • Influence over architectural direction, tooling choices, and code quality in a modern frontend stack
  • Opportunities to mentor and elevate other engineers
  • A collaborative, design-minded engineering culture that values quality and innovation
What We Offer:
  • Growth Opportunities: As a team member of a true startup, you will learn by doing and shape our future. The opportunities are limitless for those who want to grow their career.
  • Impact Opportunity: We work on missions that matter to keep people safe and make the world better, and we do it without bureaucracy at the speed of a startup.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with amazing teammates. The Overwatch Imaging leadership team believes in an open-door policy, meaning everyone has a voice and access to guidance, advice, feedback, and the ability to pitch crazy new products or ideas.
  • Late Start Wednesday: A weekly block to have focus time away from meetings and calls. An opportunity to work from home, flex your schedule or self-directed time to focus on training and development.
  • Time Off: Generous PTO to empower employees to make decisions about work life balance based on work and home needs.
  • Holidays: Overwatch Imaging recognizes 10 company holidays.
  • Ownership: Equity/Stock Options in our rapidly growing company.
  • Health Benefits: Medical/Dental premiums 100% covered by Overwatch Imaging for employees and their families, plus available pre-tax health savings account.
  • 401K: Employer matching contributions up to 4% of pay.

All applicants must be authorized to work on a permanent basis in the United States.
