Part-Time Twilight Teacher (up to 20 Hours/Week) -- 2025-2026
ASD High Schools (MHS, AHS, or OHS):  Middletown High School Hours are 3:15 to 5:15, Monday through Thursday.
HOURLY RATE:  $36/hour
NOTE:  Secondary content and Special Education Teacher certification required
POSITION OVERVIEW





Under direction of the Program Director, the Licensed Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student.  Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position.  This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
 
  • Know and understand high school curriculum 
  • Know, understand, and use district behavior policy 
  • Understand the process of student enrollment, including application, attend parent meeting. 
  • Work with school counselor to coordinate student course enrollment 
  • Understand attendance police and enforce it 
  • Use E-School to record student attendance, upload required documentation for September 30th count and monthly grade reports. 
  • Submit completed course grade to sending school counselor 
  • Attend IEP meetings, as needed 
  • Work with the Twilight and Credit Recovery staff to keep students on track for course completion 
  • Stay abreast all high school curriculum changes and updates and implement into curriculum  
  • Manage online course platform 
  • Teach online courses and ensure all students complete each class attempted Develop a positive relationship with students 
  • Work, dress and behave in a professional manner. Help to maintain the school's professional appearance 
  • Maintain high time on task 
  • Maintain accurate records 
  • Any other assigned duties
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Below are the qualifications for this position:
  • State of Delaware Secondary content and Special Education Teacher certification required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Hold or eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the identified content area (SPED Preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment.  Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

  • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
