NEWS PRODUCER

KVIA-TV is the number one news station in the beautiful and sunny El Paso, Texas/Las Cruces, New Mexico market. We are looking for a solid, creative, and energetic producer to help lead our newscasts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a producer you will help lead a team of content creators: including anchors, reporters, and photographers to help create compelling content - this includes solid storytelling, writing, teasing, branding, and showcasing abilities. You must have sound news judgement with the ability to make quick, real-time decisions in a high-paced and deadline-based environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure daily quality and accuracy in newscasts
  • Drive showcasing, pacing, and content decisions in newscasts
  • Copy edit and approve reporter scripts
  • Protect the First Alert & Breaking News Brand
  • Make sure newscasts are timed properly
  • Good communicator in the control room
  • Work closely with the Assignment Desk, Assistant News Director & Digital Content Director
  • Write digital copy for KVIA website and app
  • Create social media content
  • Send out breaking news push alerts as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience producing newscasts preferred, but not necessary
  • Understanding of legal liabilities and ethics
