Description

The Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Stony Brook University, SUNY, is seeking applications for two (2) state-supported tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

The positions are primarily research-oriented. Successful candidates will have, or be able to establish, innovative externally funded research programs. We are open to all areas of physiology and biophysics. We especially welcome candidates interested in organ physiology; molecular, cellular or tissue biophysics; advanced electrophysiology, ion channel studies or membrane biology; neurobiology; signal transduction; cancer biology. We encourage candidates to build on existing strengths within the department.

Competitive startup funds and modern lab and office space will be provided. The Department and the University have state-of-the-art core facilities for microscopy, functional imaging, proteomics, transcriptomics, lipidomics, flow cytometry, and high-performance computing.

We are a collegial and highly collaborative department, led by a new Chair: Prof. Diego Restrepo, Ph.D. We have close relationships with physical, engineering, medical, and life science departments throughout the university and beyond. We seek to be a hub of interdisciplinary research.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) and postdoctoral research experience are required. Current extramural biomedical research funding is required as evidence of fundability. Three letters of recommendation.

Preferred Qualifications: High quality of past and current research. High quality of proposed research. Strong potential to continue to attract external research funding. Strong letters of recommendation. Potential for collaborations within the department and across campus. Record of success in mentorship and teaching. Demonstrated leadership and service to the scientific community.
