Job description

Company:Yumi Ice Cream Co., Inc

Position Title:Warehouse CDL A Driver

Job Summary:
The Driver is responsible for the timely pick-up, delivery, and transport of goods to and from Yumi locations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Loads or assists in loading the trailer with materials. Unloads or assists in unloading the trailer using a forklift or hand truck.
  • Operates semi-truck(must be able to drive manual transmission)with one trailer, according to state laws. Transports load over the required route to the proper destination, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations. Operate in a variety of conditions, including highway, urban, and rural driving, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Comply with state, federal, and local regulation as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Performs miscellaneous service duties such as checkingthe oil, water, gasoline, and air in tires daily. Reports any maintenance malfunctions to theShop Manager.
  • Maintain trip envelope, daily vehicle inspection reports, and other required paperwork

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May use hand truck to rearrange loads in shipping department area.
  • May sweep out truck body on off-shifts
  • May switch empty/full trailers in shipping yard on off-shifts for optimum loading patterns on the following day.

Work Environment:

  • Location: Work is performed 50-80% on the road driving vehicle.
  • Hazards: Driving in all types of weather, slippery surfaces, lifting hazards, exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, traffic hazards, fall hazards from work on dock and tailgate, fumes, odors, and some bouncing, jarring, andvibration from truck operation.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: 10-15-ton truck, hand truck, pallet jack, forklift, carts, dollies, straps, lift gates, and pallets.
  • Safety Equipment: Seat belts, gloves, hearing and eye protection as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing/Walking.
  • Sitting: Frequently sitting in trailer cab for long periods while operating vehicle between Yumi locations.
  • Lift/Carry: May be required to lift and/or carry up to 65 pounds as needed.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently, using both hands and arms while moving materials via a wheeled cart, exerting a force of up to 15-35 pounds depending on surface/slope. Seldom up to 75 pounds force moving palletized load using pallet jack.
  • Climbing.
  • Bending/Twisting: Constantly, at waist while loading/unloading items.
  • Kneeling/Crouching.
  • Hands/Arms: Constant use of both hands/arms throughout work shift while forward reaching, handling, gripping, power grasping, fingering and above shoulder reaching.
  • Sight/Hearing/Speech: Constantly, required to ensure safe operation of vehicle, and performing essential functions at Yumi locations
  • Other Demands: Subject to cold temperatures -20 degrees F.
  • Must be able to grip a minimum of 45 lbs. with each hand

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English regarding the job and safety regulations.
  • Must have a valid class A CDL license.
  • Possess or ability to obtain a valid DOT medical certification.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Five years of trailer experience.
  • Requires high degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of tractor trailer and in preventing damage to materials and trailer equipment.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Knowledge of the Department of Transportation's requirements and regulations.
  • No visible tattoos or piercings permitted while in the workplace
  • Smoke- & Vape-Free Workplace
  • Contingent upon the successful completion of a company-initiated and approved background check and motor vehicle report (MVR), drug screen, physical, and human performance evaluation (HPE)
