Job description

The CNC Turret & Laser Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs for turret punch presses, fiber lasers, and laser cutting equipment. This position supports manufacturing operations by creating efficient nesting and machining programs, troubleshooting production issues, improving machine utilization, and ensuring quality and productivity goals are met.
Responsibilities
Programming & Nesting
  • Create, modify, and maintain CNC programs for turret punch and laser cutting machines.
  • Generate optimized nests to maximize material utilization and reduce scrap.
  • Develop tooling strategies to improve cycle times and machine efficiency.
  • Verify program accuracy prior to production release.
  • Maintain program files and revisions in accordance with company standards.
  • Support engineering change requests by updating programs and documentation.

Production Support
  • Troubleshoot programming, tooling, and machine-related issues on the production floor.
  • Work closely with operators to resolve manufacturing challenges and improve throughput.
  • Validate new programs and first-run jobs to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Assist in setup reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor machine performance and recommend process improvements.

Quality & Documentation
  • Review engineering drawings, CAD files, and customer specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and manufacturing requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of programming revisions and machine settings.
  • Support root cause investigations related to manufacturing defects or productivity losses.

Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Planning, Quality, and Maintenance departments.
  • Provide technical support and training to machine operators and setup technicians.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
  • 3 years of CNC programming experience in sheet metal fabrication preferred.
  • Experience programming turret punch and laser cutting equipment (Muratec, Amada, Bystronic, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
  • Experience with nesting and CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of automation and lights-out manufacturing practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to optimize machine utilization and material yield.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of tooling, nesting strategies, machine setup, and production flow.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and computer use.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
