Director of Natural Turf
Company: NorthEast Sportsfield-Rec
Location: Eastern Massachusetts
NorthEast Sportsfield-Rec is growing fast, and we're looking for an experienced, hands-on Director of Natural Turf to lead the next phase of our expansion in athletic field construction and renovation.
If you're passionate about cool-season turf, sports field performance, and building high-quality playing surfaces that athletes can trust, this is your opportunity to take ownership of a growing division and help shape it from the ground up.What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you'll oversee all natural turf operations across Eastern Massachusetts, leading both field execution and team development.
You'll be responsible for:
  • Leading natural turf construction, renovation, and maintenance projects
  • Managing foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews
  • Training and developing team members while ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency
  • Keeping projects on schedule, within budget, and aligned with performance expectations
  • Operating and overseeing specialized equipment as needed
  • Applying fertilizers, pesticides, and managing turf health programs
  • Handling irrigation installation, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
  • Working closely with both field teams and office staff using tools like Microsoft Office, Teams, Bluebeam, and scheduling systems
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with strong technical turf knowledge and proven leadership experience who can confidently run operations in the field and in the office.
  • B.S. in Turfgrass Science (required)
  • 5+ years in a management or leadership role
  • At least 3+ years of experience in turf maintenance and sports field construction
  • Strong agronomy knowledge, especially with cool-season grasses
  • Experience with construction-related work such as concrete, asphalt, machinery operation, and truck/trailer use
  • Valid driver's license required (CDL Class B preferred)
  • Massachusetts licenses required or preferred:
    • Pesticide License (Category 37)
    • Hoisting Engineer License (2A/1C)
    • DOT Medical Card
  • CSFM certification preferred
