Job description

The New York Jets are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated candidate to join our Field & Grounds team. The Senior Manager, Athletic Fields & Grounds reports directly to the Director, Athletic Fields & Grounds. The Senior Manager works in conjunction with the Director to assign daily task for support staff and provide safe and visually appealing fields and grounds at The Atlantic Health Jets Training Center. This is a 27-acre facility located in Florham Park, New Jersey.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Manage the grounds maintenance fleet. Including records of oil, fuel, air filter changes. Greasing, blade sharpening, belts and parts inventory necessary to complete task.
  • Irrigation diagnostics relating to system running properly. Trouble shoot and repair heads, valves, damaged lines, and solenoids.
  • Ability to see and understand environmental stress factors for cool season turfgrass diseases and take necessary corrective actions related to such specific disease. Including Summer Patch, Pythium, Leaf Spot Melt Out, Brown Patch, Pythium Crown and Root Rot, Red Thread, Pink Snow Mold, and Fairy Ring.
  • Prepare and maintain fields in accordance with NFL specifications. This will require knowledge in measuring and painting. Included in the maintenance is soil and tissue testing, moisture monitoring, mowing, string trimming, fertilizer, PGR and pesticide applications, aerification, topdressing, leveling of heads and valve boxes, sweeping, verticutting, sled placement, trash removal, seeding and divot repair.
  • General landscape maintenance for beautification of the facility and special events. Maintenance includes mowing, string trimming, mulching, weeding, planting, pressure washing, painting, watering, seeding, sodding, fertilizing, pesticide application and snow removal.
  • Ability to maintain artificial practice surfaces in accordance with NFL regulations. This will require understanding of manufactures recommendations on infill depth. In conjunction with infill depth proper grooming techniques and correct techniques in operating and recording Strike results.
  • Observe and communicate corrective actions relating to MetLife Stadium playing surface.
  • Ability to stand in as Director, Athletic Fields and Grounds in case of absence.
  • All other duties assigned by the Director, Athletic Fields and Grounds.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree in Turfgrass Science or related field.
  • Seven or more years of athletic field, golf or grounds maintenance experience.
  • Experience managing sand-based root zones and cool season turf
  • Experience managing staff.
  • Ability to obtain a New Jersey Pesticide License within 1 year of employment.
  • Ability to obtain a New Jersey Fertilizer Applicators License within 3 months of employment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, run, twist climb and lift 75lbs for extended amounts of time.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Turfgrass, Horticulture or related field.
  • Experience working in collegiate or professional football.
  • Knowledgeable with Excel, Word, Power Point, Paylocity.

Salary range for this role: USD $110,000 - $120,000 per year and discretionary annual company bonus, dependent on the specific qualifications of the successful candidate.
