Job description
- Under the direction of the Facilities and Maintenance Manager, the Parks Facilities Supervisor oversees the daily operation, maintenance, scheduling, and administration of County athletic facilities, park grounds, recreational assets, staff, and budgets. This position serves as the primary operational contact for athletic leagues, facility users, contractors, and County staff regarding facility conditions, scheduling, maintenance coordination, and event readiness.
- The Parks Facilities Supervisor provides hands-on leadership to ensure athletic facilities and parks are safe, professional, and operationally ready for practices, games, tournaments, special events, and public use. Responsibilities include athletic field and turf management, irrigation oversight, grounds maintenance, staff supervision, budget administration, purchasing, and customer service.
- This position directly supervises assigned staff and is responsible for performance management, training, development, scheduling, policy compliance, and accountability. Because parks and athletic facilities operate beyond traditional business hours, the position requires flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours as needed.
Facility Operations amp; Maintenance
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and inspection of County athletic fields, parks, and facilities, including turf, irrigation systems, fencing, dugouts, lighting, restrooms, and related infrastructure.
- Ensure facilities are properly prepared, maintained, and operationally ready for practices, games, tournaments, special events, and public use.
- Oversee irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and operational monitoring.
- Supervise and participate in field and grounds maintenance activities, including mowing, edging, fertilization, infield preparation, litter control, restroom inspections, facility cleanup, and general park maintenance.
- Maintain a visible presence at County parks and athletic facilities to monitor conditions, support staff, and ensure quality standards.
- Scheduling, Customer Service amp; Community Relations
- Serve as the primary contact for athletic facility usage, park rentals, league relations, and athletic operations.
- Coordinate with leagues, coaches, tournament organizers, user groups, contractors, and community partners regarding scheduling, facility conditions, weather impacts, maintenance activities, and operational concerns.
- Maintain facility reservation and event calendars.
- Respond to citizen concerns, facility issues, emergencies, and customer service inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with promoting Parks and Recreation programs, facilities, and events.
- Staff Leadership amp; Administration
- Recruit, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned staff.
- Establish performance expectations, ensure policy compliance, address deficiencies, and foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and customer service.
- Coordinate employee schedules, work assignments, and staffing coverage for routine operations, special events, tournaments, and emergencies.
- Maintain employee time records, leave requests, and related personnel documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, work assignments, staffing activities, irrigation operations, and facility issues.
- Manage departmental budgets, purchasing, and procurement activities within approved funding levels.
- Assist with capital improvements, asset management, long-range planning, and future facility development projects.
- Collaborate with County leadership to prioritize maintenance needs, operational improvements, risk management initiatives, and customer service objectives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Park Administration, Physical Education, or a related field preferred.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of progressively responsible recreation, parks, facilities, or maintenance management experience, including supervisory responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license required.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within twelve (12) months of employment.
- Experience working with the public required.
- Experience with youth sports, athletic field operations, and recreational programming preferred.
- Knowledge of athletic field operations, youth sports, park maintenance, irrigation systems, and turf management.
- Knowledge of parks and facilities maintenance practices, equipment, materials, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate employees.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and activities.
- Ability to prepare reports, maintain records, and manage budgets.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, policies, regulations, and operational procedures.
