Public Health Division, Southwest Region is comprised of eight counties and works to promote health and wellness, improve health outcomes, and assure safety net services for all people in New Mexico.
Why does the job exist?
The purpose of the Tuberculosis (TB) Nurse Coordinator position is to provide TB case management for patients diagnosed with active TB disease, provide education, referrals, and to provide direct observed therapy (DOT) for clients diagnosed with active TB disease in the Southwest (SW) Region. The TB Nurse Coordinator will also provide technical guidance and training to local public health office nurses to ensure adequate care, treatment and follow up for clients with TB throughout the SW Region.
How does it get done?
This position will be responsible for:
Performing initial interviews of active TB cases and corresponding contacts in the SW Region.
Establishing case management and developing treatment plans through the collection of patient medical history, collection of labs and sputum specimens per TB Program protocols.
Auditing TB client medical records.
Conducting follow-up for newly arrived persons with overseas Tuberculosis classifications (B1/B2) as assigned by the TB Nurse Consultants.

This position will serve the New Mexico demographic population.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has experience:
-Administering medication and ensuring medication adherence.
-Drawing blood and preparing lab specimens.
-Interacting and communicating with an interdisciplinary team that may include non-department of health entities.
-With using an electronic medical record and should be comfortable communicating via TEAMS and other electronic modalities.
-With performing contact tracing.
-Is comfortable with conducting home visits and performing nursing duties in the community away from a clinical setting.
-Strong preference will be given to bilingual applicants fluent in both English and Spanish.
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Successful completion of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act), and successful completion of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act) trainings are required within sixty (60) days of employment.
Position will require Blood-borne pathogen training and successful completion of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) course within thirty (30) days as condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Services are provided in a clinic, auxiliary and community sites, and/or in the client's home with potential exposure to communicable diseases. There is also computer usage for a variety of clinic and office functions. When work is performed in an office there will be exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of office noise, bending, standing and lifting. The candidate should ideally have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Services are provided to diverse racial and ethnic populations, many who do not speak the English language. May be required to work evening and/or weekend hours at various Public Health Offices.
