Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
  • OR
  • Registered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification a plus
     

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Pharmacy Technologist assists Pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.

Senior Pharmacy Technologist

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience OR Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technician
  • Four (4) or more advanced Pharmacy Technologist competencies:
    • Prepares and/or oversees preparation of complex prescription medications or medications that require special handling within assigned area such as extemporaneous non-sterile compounded products, sterile compounded IV products or specialty medications
    • Participates in the operations of medication therapy management
    • Initiates medication reconciliation
    • Assists with screening, documentation, and preparation of immunizations
    • Works with patients, providers, and payers to obtain prior authorization
    • Resolves billing/adjudication issues encountered in the processing of prescription
    • Proficient in the use of financial assistance software
    • Proficient in C2 safe operation and/or OR anesthesia narcotic reconciliation
    • Advanced skill in the use of technology within area of assignment
    • Works with leaders and team members to solve problems within assigned area
    • Ability to train new employees within area of assignment
    • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with other healthcare professionals effectively and professionally
    • Ability to apply accepted procedures in inventory control of medications, equipment, devices, and other supplies
    • Supports pharmacy compliance with professional standards and relevant legal, regulatory, formulary, contractual, and safety requirements
    • Performs system data entry of information such as referral requests, drug utilization management information, prepacking information, drug purchasing information, or non-formulary approval information
