Battelle's Critical Infrastructure Business Line is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to lead the research, development, test, and evaluation of security systems and technology in support of the Department of Homeland Security. The selected candidate will be based at Battelle's Crystal City Operations in Arlington, Virginia, working across both laboratory and field settings. This role requires regular client interaction and demands strong oral and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Responsibilities As a Senior Test Engineer, the selected individual will lead a team of test engineers in the planning, execution, and reporting of security technology evaluations for federal clients. Responsibilities may include: * Leading federal acquisition-based test planning, test execution methodology, data collection, data reduction and analysis, and technical report writing
* Training and providing day-to-day direction to junior staff to support their technical development and foster innovative processes
* Engaging with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), vendors, and stakeholders to enhance technologies and capabilities throughout the developmental lifecycle
* Conducting engineering design reviews and supporting technology development across security-relevant scientific disciplines, including non-intrusive inspection, physical security, command and control integration, human factors, and operations research
* Participating in scientific conferences and supporting or leading technical proposal development
* Generating white papers to identify and pursue further research opportunities
* Applying ISO 9001 Quality Management System principles to ensure quality throughout test and evaluation activities
Key Qualifications * Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in a technical discipline
* 10 years of relevant technical experience with a BS; 7 years with an MS; or 4 years with a PhD
* Demonstrated experience in Test and Evaluation (T&E), including test planning, execution, data analysis, and technical reporting
* Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
* Knowledge of technical disciplines relevant to security systems, including non-intrusive inspection, physical security applications, command and control integration, human factors, operations research, and statistics
* Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact directly and regularly with clients
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
* Ability to work independently as a self-starter and collaboratively as a team player
* Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
* Sole U.S. citizenship is required, along with the eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance and TSA Security Suitability

* Master's degree or PhD in Human Factors or another technical field
* Experience in the test and evaluation of Transportation Security Equipment (TSE)
* Defense Acquisition University (DAU) T&E Level I, II, and/or III certification, or equivalent
* Experience applying statistical methods to analyze and report test results
* Experience formulating design of experiments (DOE) methodologies
* Experience designing and/or implementing data collection hardware and techniques
Compensation Data Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $97,800 - $139,400 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
