Concordia University Texas is currently searching for an Adjunct (part-time) Brass Instructor to teach an undergraduate brass music course and provide brass lessons on-ground at our main Austin location beginning Fall 2026.
The primary responsibilities include teaching Brass Methods for music education majors and providing applied brass instruction. Candidates should have expertise across the brass family, including trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba, with professional-level performance expertise on at least one brass instrument.
EDUCATIONAL amp; PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree or higher in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related music field required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency across the brass family sufficient to teach fundamentals and pedagogy at the collegiate level.
  • Professional-level performance expertise on at least one brass instrument.
  • Prior teaching experience in a collegiate, secondary, or private studio setting.
  • Experience teaching a college-level Brass Methods or Brass Techniques course preferred.
  • Doctorate (DMA or PhD) in Music or a related field preferred.
  • Active involvement as an educator or performer in the Austin area preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to encouraging and supporting diversity, inclusion, and equity as a key component of teaching and becoming the premier university where the adventure of faith, learning, and life-changing experiences leads to meaningful work.
  • All CTX positions require mission-driven individuals who have a heart for the Gospel and are committed to the Concordia Distinctive, our faith-based mission of empowering students from all backgrounds to lead lives of critical thought, compassionate action, and courageous leadership.
POSITION FUNCTIONS
  • Teach Brass Methods for music education majors, including fundamentals of tone production, embouchure, breathing, articulation, instrument maintenance, and pedagogy across brass instruments.
  • Provide applied brass instruction for majors, minors, and non-majors as assigned.
  • Prepare students for juries, recitals, and applicable degree requirements.
  • Develop appropriate syllabi, repertoire, and assessments.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and accurate grading using Blackboard Ultra LMS.
  • Assist with auditions, prospective student lessons, and music recruitment activities as needed.
  • Complete required trainings and remain current with institutional expectations.
  • Respond consistently and professionally to communication from administration and students.
  • Foster a studio and classroom environment characterized by excellence, encouragement, and Christ-centered mentorship.
  • Ability to articulate and model Concordia University Texas’ mission, vision, and values.
About the Courses

Students develop foundational performance skills while studying brass pedagogy, tone production, breathing, articulation, embouchure, and instrument maintenance.
  • Applied brass instruction provides individualized instruction appropriate to each student’s instrument, experience level, and academic program, including technique, musicianship, repertoire, and preparation for juries and recitals.
