Position Summary


The Corporate Controller directs and oversees all financial and accounting activities of the organization and related entities and is responsible for translating financial information into useful management insight. The successful candidate will protect the integrity of the financial statements while building stronger FP&A support for practice leaders and internal operations. This role offers the opportunity to expand over time, in line with the growth of the organization, into a Director of Finance position with broader responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, operating metrics, and finance partnership across the firm. This role is critical for ensuring the company's financial health and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.


Responsibilities


Accounting, Financial Reporting and Compliance

  • Ensure all financial records and supporting documentation are maintained in compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and Company policies and procedures for the consolidated consulting business and foreign subsidiary
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of consolidation, financial reporting and general ledger structure and integrity
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Review and ensure accurate processing of expense reporting, payroll, A/P and A/R
  • Ensure timely monthly financial reporting, including internal and external financial statements, management reports, and clear explanations of actual results versus budget/forecast
  • Monitor bank accounts, manage cash availability, execute wire and ACH payments, forecast cash flow, and oversee collections activity

Audit and Risk Management

  • Manage and oversee the independent yearly financial audit/review including PBC schedules, explanation and analysis of key business events, management initiatives impacting financial performance, and update the review memo and notes to the financial statements
  • Identify and address accounting, compliance, control, and reporting risks that could affect the integrity of the company's financial statements or financial operations

Taxation and Regulatory Compliance

  • Coordinate with outside tax and finance specialists/service providers federal and state income tax filings, reporting and payments
  • Manage all yearly regulatory filings in addition to federal and state income taxation (FBAR, CAT, SOS- SI, US Census, 571L etc.)

FP&A and Business Partnership

  • Partner with practice leaders and department heads to interpret financial results and improve decision-making on revenue, margin, utilization, staffing, project economics, pricing, billing, collections, and spend management
  • Support and progressively assume leadership of annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, rolling forecast updates, and scenario analysis
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting that show performance by practice, product line, customer, project, and cost center where appropriate
  • Translate financial results into concise business narratives for senior leadership and operators, including what changed, why it changed, what matters, and what action is recommended
  • Build trusted working relationships with practice leaders, department heads, and internal operations leaders by being responsive, concise, accurate, solutions-oriented, and proactive in follow-through
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and data quality issues early, especially in project profitability, utilization, labor cost rates, billing, collections, expense trends, and forecast credibility, and lead the proactive resolution

Internal Controls and Process Improvement

  • Continuously improve accounting and finance processes while maintaining appropriate controls and segregation of duties for a private professional services firm
  • Work with IT and business users to improve reporting automation, data accuracy, workflow efficiency, and accounting system usage
  • Create practical department policies, procedures, and checklists that reduce dependency on tribal knowledge
  • Lead cross-functional finance projects using clear project plans, stakeholder communication, risk tracking, and implementation discipline

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications
  • 8 or more years of progressive, hands-on accounting and finance experience, including controller-level responsibility or equivalent ownership of close, reporting, controls, audit/review support, and management reporting
  • Demonstrated FP&A capability, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, KPI reporting, and business partner support to operating leaders
  • Experience in a professional services, consulting, engineering services, agency, staffing, project-based, or other labor-based business model. Consulting/professional services experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial statements, consolidations, intercompany activity, cash management, and accounting operations
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling capability. Experience with accounting systems, reporting tools, CRM/project data, and workflow automation
  • Experience with Salesforce/Force.com, Certinia, or similar CRM/project accounting/reporting platforms preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate financial results clearly to non-finance leaders and build credibility across functions 
  • Proven project management discipline for finance process or systems initiatives
  • Authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis and able to work from the Irvine office 3 days per week

Education 

  • 4-year degree, preferably in accounting, finance or related field and/or combination of required education and experience 
  • CPA preferred
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification or ability to obtain upon hire

The salary range for this position reflects our good-faith estimate of the minimum and maximum base pay for the role at the time of posting. The actual pay offered may vary based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, location, and market conditions. For example, a candidate with the minimum required experience and qualifications may receive an offer near the lower end of the range, while a candidate with extensive experience and specialized expertise may receive an offer near the top of the range. In addition to base salary, employees are eligible for performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package.
