Job description

Hendrick Motorsports
Location: 4400 Papa Joe Hendrick Blvd, Charlotte, North Carolina 28262
Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation, is currently seeking a highly motivated engineering student for the Vehicle Engineering Group. The ideal candidate is expected to have solid basic knowledge on vehicle dynamics, vehicle subsystems, simulation, testing and deliverables. Also, a basic background in applying probability and statistics to real data, as well as defining problems and evaluating the effectiveness of different techniques in solving these problems. With regards to computing skills, the candidate must demonstrate basic knowledge of managing large data sets and quickly prototyping solutions that work on moderately large datasets in a clear and interactive manner. The ideal candidate will work proactively and professionally to cultivate relationships and improve performance on the track.
Lab Testing
  • 7-Post Test set up and support including instrumentation placement and recalibration, operation and data processing, data analysis, record setup changes on database, preventive maintenance as needed
  • Ride Rate Rig testing including car installation and removal, full rig test operation, assistance to Race Engineers and Mechanics, setup and preparation of various compliance tests
  • Offsite Testing Rigs including assistance with planning and preparation for test sessions aside of attendance to help with setup and changes
  • General Lab maintenance and up keep

Data Acquisition
  • Construction of Data Build Sheet, basic system setup and test support as needed

Race Team Support
  • Creation of basic tools to support race day activities
  • Assist with Pre and Post Event Reports
  • Support race day team activities

Education: Required: Working towards an Engineering Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school)
Computer Skills: Proficiency in popular vehicle dynamics software and experience using simulation tools for dynamic systems investigation, implementation and verification are required (Simulink/MATLAB, PME VES). Data analysis software to analyze systems response (Pi Toolbox, Motec). Proficient PC Skills, including but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Duration: 5-12 months
