ย Pitt County Schools Job Description

Site Bus Driver

Report To:ย ย  ย ย ย  ย ย ย  ย Transportation Director

Term of Employment: ย ย  ย ย ย  ย 10 Months

Starting Pay: BD $17.81 (subject to changes)ย 

Performance Evaluation:ย ย  ย Performance is to be evaluated annually by Ridgewood Elementary School Bus Admin

Education/Qualifications:ย ย  ย Must be eligible for a school bus driver's license (CDL)

Key Points:

  • Must drive an elementary route and a secondary route.
  • Additional time used to maintain buses at site.
  • Help with bus administrative tasksย  (Headcounts, seating charts, passing out/taking up paperwork)
  • 6 hour position

Responsibilities and Duties by Program Area:

  • Drives a school bus safely and professionally
  • Maintains order and discipline of students assigned to the school bus in accordance with PCS Board Policies pertaining to discipline and the PCS Code of Conduct
  • Completes daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of a school bus
  • Complies with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Complies with PCS Board Policies and rules set forth by the Transportation Department
  • Maintains logs and complete records
  • Participates in trainings and workshops
  • Ability to meet and maintain legal and physical requirements for NC School Bus Certification and local rules
  • Ability to operate and maneuver a school bus with proficiency
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels (administrators, parents, students, and school community)
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL, P&S endorsements
  • Must be able to successfully complete a medical examination
  • Must be required to successfully complete the physical standards testing set forth by the School Bus & Traffic Safety Section of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles and the School System's Transportation Department
  • Must be assigned and drive at least two school routes for the morning and afternoon
  • Prepares the site buses in the morning, cleans the buses, and takes the buses to the garage for maintenance and fuel
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Ridgewood Administration
