Job description

Student Support Services TRIO Program (SSS) seeks highly motivated and self-directed individuals to join our team as Peer Coaches. This position plays a vital role in fostering academic success and personal development among program participants, particularly first-year students adjusting to UNM life.Position Overview: Peer Coaches provide academic tutoring, mentoring, and essential support services to undergraduate students in the SSS. Services include assisting with coursework, preparing for exams, and helping students develop effective study strategies

Peer Coaches also guide participants in navigating university resources and adjusting to the academic and social environment. Academic expertise is needed in freshman-level courses. Must be friendly and work well in groups and independently. Must be flexible and have a strong understanding of the unique academic needs of underclassmen.Key Responsibilities: Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring. Mentor students by fostering positive academic habits, time management, and guidance on university policies

Assist students in developing study skills and preparing for exams/tests. Collaborate with program staff to facilitate educational workshops and activities. Conduct campus tours to familiarize students with key facilities and resources.

Support the SSS Advising team by assisting in the assessment of student academic or advising needs. Participate in program training and required staff meetings. Deliver quality customer service in interactions with students, staff, and faculty.

Other duties as assigned.
