Nursery Person/Equipment Operator
 
POSITION DUTIES:
  • Accurately mix, incorporate fertilizer and shred soil for planting, heeling, and greenhouse needs according to established formulas
  • Load and haul soil, rock and other materials on trucks as needed and directed
  • Assist in loading and unloading B&B and container nursery stock as directed
  • Communicate problems, concerns or other pertinent information to supervisor or other personnel as necessary
  • Grade nursery roads as directed
  • Operate the following equipment in a safe, efficient, and effective manner: skid loaders, soil shredder, semi-tractor/trailer trucks, forklift, front end loaders, flattops, road grader, pesticide sprayers, fertilizer implements, farm tractors and others
  • Perform routine light maintenance on equipment on a daily or other scheduled basis as directed. Maintain equipment in safe working order. Communicate maintenance needs to shop personnel.
  • Accurately mix and apply chemical pesticides and fertilizers as directed
  • Perform field maintenance duties including filling tree spade holes, grubbing, and hauling trees and others as directed
  • Operate dumb truck over the road to haul various materials as directed
  • Perform other duties in the nursery and wholesale departments as needed and directed. Duties may include leading work crews in various nursery related functions.
  • Perform all duties in a safe, effective, thorough and efficient manner
  • Assist in other areas as directed

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma plus two-year certificate in horticulture or related field and two years nursery/landscape production experience including one year in a leadership role
  • Valid Class D Minnesota driver’s license or equivalent out-state license preferred, CDL driver's license may be required
  • Must be accepted as insurable with Bachman’s Insurance carrier considering a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and Bachman’s Safe Driver Standards
  • May be required to obtain a chemical pesticide applicators license
  • Requires a strong working knowledge of landscape plant materials commonly found in Minnesota landscapes
  • Conversational Spanish speaking ability, preferred
  • MNLA Nursery Professional Certification, preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to lift (up to) 50lbs on regular basis and 100lbs on occasional basis
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round and stand and/or bend for an extended period
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

COMPENSATION: $24.76
Hours: 7:00-5:00pm M-F, 7:00-12:00pm Sat. Nonpeak hours: 7:00-4:00pm. Overtime as needed.
