Job description

Treasure House provides a supportive living environment where young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) can participate in their community, achieve independence, and realize their purpose. The organization’s vision maintains that all adults, regardless of their abilities, will be active and valued members in their community.

The Community Assistant is responsible for leading and managing resident Community life at Treasure House including programs, activities, safety and community inclusion based on his or her assigned shift responsibilities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety and Well-being

  • Provide direct support to residents in maintaining their daily schedules, with morning, evening, weekend, and occasional night coverage shifts.
  • Ensure the safety of residents by maintaining an awareness of everyone’s where-abouts at all times.
  • With oversight from the resident life coaches, helps residents to navigate internal and external concerns and relationships, both professional and personal.
  • Ensures the well-being of residents by maintaining professional boundaries and relationships with residents at all times.
  • Ensures resident medication compliance by adhering to all safeguards and procedures.
  • Address and resolve emergency situations by actively seeking problem resolutions and considering the safety and welfare of the residents as a top priority in all events.
  • Prepares meals per planned menu and assists with cleanup as needed.
  • Report to the appropriate leadership team member any issues or concerns related to the following: residence, resident, employee fleet vehicle, meal planning, residential schedules, policies, procedures and incidents.

Independence

  • Ensure residents stay engaged in life skills, vocational and recreational programming that creates development and learning opportunities.
  • Documentation of progress, accomplishments, activities, issues and concerns in support of resident goals as put in place by the resident's life coach.

Community

  • Oversight and compliance with resident behaviors while in the community to include the following: maintain set budget as relayed by life coach, use appropriate language, manners spatial awareness and voice projection.
  • Transports residents to and from daily vocational, day programming or school and recreational events as scheduled on the daily resident transportation log using authorized company vehicles.
  • Conduct a professional and knowledgeable manner consistent with the Treasure House mission and brand in all interpersonal and public interactions.
  • Serves as a positive ambassador who advocates for the organization and its residents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Treasure House Community Assistant must possess and exhibit:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 21+ years of age
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License and clean driving record with at least 3 years of driving experience
  • Must clear full background check (including but not limited to criminal history check and Motor Vehicle Report)

Preferred:

  • 2 years’ experience supporting persons with IDD
  • First aid, CPR, Food handler's and Article 9 Current Certifications (must have 30 days after hire - training can be provided)
  • Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card (must have within 30 days after hire)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions occasionally.
