Job Title: Traveling Construction Superintendent – Secure Interior Fit-Out Projects

Job Description

This role oversees and actively leads secure interior construction and tenant fit-out projects across multiple locations. The Traveling Construction Superintendent manages field operations for secure facilities, including SCIFs and other specialized interiors, ensuring that all work meets project plans, specifications, and strict security requirements. The position requires extensive travel, hands-on leadership, and close collaboration with clients and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality, secure construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all SCIF and interior construction work, actively overseeing secure construction and tenant fit-out projects from start to finish.
  • Manage field crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and security requirements.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and assist with execution of daily field activities, stepping in as needed to maintain productivity and resolve issues on site.
  • Develop, manage, and adjust project schedules, sequencing, and daily work plans while maintaining safety, quality, and production goals.
  • Maintain a strong, visible presence on the jobsite and lead by example through hands-on involvement in construction activities.
  • Interface directly with clients, property managers, architects, engineers, local officials, and security representatives to support project success and address field concerns.
  • Monitor and control jobsite conditions, ensuring strict compliance with safety standards and secure site protocols, including ICD 705, NISPOM, and other applicable requirements.
  • Complete and maintain accurate daily documentation such as logs, reports, and inspection records to track progress and compliance.
  • Assist with procurement, material coordination, and material handling to keep projects supplied and on schedule.
  • Support self-perform trades when applicable, providing guidance and assistance to ensure high-quality workmanship.
  • Uphold high workmanship standards and consistently represent company values through active field leadership and professional conduct.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, with a focus on interior commercial construction and fit-out projects.
  • Strong work in interior construction, including tenant improvement and interior fit-out work.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage field crews, subcontractors, and vendors on active construction sites.
  • Proven experience in developing and managing project schedules, sequencing, and daily work plans.
  • Ability to maintain strict adherence to project plans, specifications, and security requirements.
  • Experience working on secure construction projects, with SCIF experience highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with secure site protocols and standards such as ICD 705 and NISPOM.
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with clients, property managers, architects, engineers, local officials, and security representatives.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete and maintain accurate daily logs, reports, and inspections.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work on projects that require continuous travel.

  • 5+ years of experience specifically within interior commercial construction environments.
  • Prior involvement in secure construction projects, particularly SCIF-related work, is highly preferred.
  • Comfort with a travel-intensive lifestyle and the flexibility to work away from home for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and production goals in a field leadership role.
  • Ability to provide hands-on support to self-perform trades when needed.
  • Track record of maintaining high workmanship standards and representing company values on job sites.

Work Environment

This position is 100% travel-based, with projects located across various regions and no guarantee of being home on weekends. The successful candidate can live anywhere, as long as they are comfortable with frequent and extended travel to job sites. Work is performed on active construction sites focused on secure interior environments and tenant fit-out projects, including SCIFs and other specialized facilities. The superintendent works closely with field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and security representatives, often in highly regulated and secure settings that require strict adherence to safety standards and protocols such as ICD 705 and NISPOM. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of WARRENTON, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
