Position Summary
The University of NewMexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is seeking applicants for a MedicalAssistant.
Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant performs a widevariety of medical and clinical support functions in an outpatient clinicalsetting, such as providing initial patient triage, registration, prior authorizations, referrals, other administrative services, assists with direct patient care, and performsspecialized medical procedures of a routine nature as determined by establishedclinical protocols.
Student Health andCounseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to allcurrently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is located North of Johnson Center andacross from the Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday and isclosed on all UNM holidays. Services include medical appointments (scheduledand same day), pharmacy, women's and men's health, allergy and immunization,medical specialty clinics, physical therapy, lab and x-ray, travel healthclinic and counseling services, as well as health education, prevention, andpromotion.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.

  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; Medical Assistant certificate or currently enrolled in a medical, nursing or pharmacy program or at least 1 year of experience in a medical field.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
