Job description

We are currently looking for a Lab Assistant to join our growing team!

Essential Responsibilities

ย  ย Logging of customer samples into the LIMS system with accuracy. ย Uses products as needed.
ย  ย Split samples between departments
ย  ย Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and reliability work.
ย  ย Ensure adherence to the daily work schedule.
ย  ย Make suggestions and recommendations regarding product/specs. that would aid in logging, including communication with customers.
ย  ย Perform clerical review to ensure accuracy.
ย  ย Ensure all samples are labeled correctly and stored at the appropriate temperatures until testing can occur.
ย  ย Ensure the sample receiving/splitting room is cleaned and maintained.
ย  ย Participate in special projects as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor.
ย  ย Keep the Manager/Supervisor informed of issues or problems within the department.
ย  ย Interact with clients, suppliers and vendors as required.
ย  ย Learn new techniques and technologies and trains others as appropriate.
ย  ย Work effectively with other departments.
ย  ย Responsible for the execution of all ISO and QC requirements.
ย  ย Stock/order supplies as needed (labels, boxes etc.)
ย  ย Assist with sample retain and retrieval ย 
ย  ย Assists with purchasing and inventory
ย  ย Assist in media prep
ย  ย Assist in cleaning of laboratory glassware
ย  ย Assist in general laboratory housekeeping tasks
ย  ย Other duties as required.

Education & Experience

ย  ย High school diplomaย 
ย  ย Knowledge of good aseptic technique and behaviors that can reduce cross contamination.
ย  ย Good conceptual basis in laboratory setting with proven ability to perform basic lab techniques.
ย  ย Critical thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
ย  ย Excellent organizational skills - ability to use your time, energy, resources, etc. in an effective manner.
ย  ย Time management - one's own time and the time of others.
ย  ย Training - teaching and guiding others how to complete a process from beginning to end.
ย  ย Strong relevant qualitative and quantitative skills.
ย  ย Excellent arithmetic skills - using mathematics to solve problems.
ย  ย Good communication skills - speaking, reading, writing and listening.
ย  ย Manual dexterity.
ย  ย Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, and work with fractions and decimals.

  • Working knowledge of ISO 17025 quality procedures and general OSHA laboratory safety guidelines preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and handling of materials.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate laboratory equipment and computers.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens.
  • Varying noise levels and temperatures (hot to cold).
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Overnight travel may be required at the discretion of management.
  • Must wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment.
