Position: Service Technician - Boiler

Classification: Non-Exempt

Location:  Reno, Nevada

Reports To:    Operations Manager

Summary/Objective 

RFM Co. is looking for a seasoned Service Technician - Boiler able to troubleshoot industrial and commercial boilers and associated burner/control systems. The successful candidate will have 5 to 8 years of experience in troubleshooting and servicing boilers and pumps from light commercial to industrial water-tube and Cogeneration applications. In this role the candidate will have hands on ability for combustion set up and analysis as well as troubleshooting skills to determine and adjust a full range of burners from .5 to 30 million BTU/HR input. R.F MacDonald Co. represents product lines such as Cleaver Brooks, Camus, Vapor Power, Taco, Industrial Combustion, and others.
  

Essential Functions: 

  • Must have strong electrical and troubleshooting skills working with electrical systems from 12 VDC to 480 VAC.
  • Should be able to Troubleshoot and diagnosis emergency repairs for Boilers, Pumps and Water Heaters.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs of industrial burners.
  • Plan and participate in installation of new boilers, burner, and associated control systems.
  • Drive to RFM customer's site and perform maintenance and emergency repairs on boilers and ancillary equipment.
  • Must be detail oriented in completing work orders, all required forms, summaries, and checklist.
  • Provide effective customer service and communication necessary to interact well with a multi-disciplinary team, including coworkers, supervisors, building clients, ES&H (Environmental, Safety, and Health) technicians, and other personnel.
  • Accountable for the completion of internal and external inspections of boilers, burners, and
  • Evaluate basic boiler room systems (steam and hydronic), gather information, and help solve problems.
  • Must have strong language skills as well as industry specific vocabulary.
  • Analyze complex data and prepare logs (boiler and water treatment), standard reports, permit requirements, deficiency forms, and preventive maintenance work requests.
  • A valid driver's license is required. Must be insurable with no major infractions.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools and instruments of the trade such as combustion analyzer, manometer, electrical meter, circuit testing equipment, and water treatment testing equipment.
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical, administrative and management personnel.

Required Education and Experience

  • Completed High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • 5-8 years of related experience in troubleshooting and servicing boilers/pump from light commercial to heavy industrial equipment companies is preferred.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship training program and/or significant equivalent journey- to advanced- level experience working with a combination of commercial packaged boilers as well as low and high-pressure steam systems, low NOx emission burners and related equipment is a plus but not a requirement.


Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment:

This job operates in internal and external environments which may include inclement weather conditions. Environment will include working with hot steam, liquids, tight spaces and other conditions depending on customer site(s).


Physical Demands:

  • Frequently require some climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and/or stretching from seated or standing positions.
  • Standing 60% Walking 20% Sitting 20%, Lifting, and carrying up to 50 lb.
  • This is a full-time position. Required to work in 8 hours shift.
  • Required to assist in providing 24-hr service by being "on call" on a rotating basis.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. This position regularly requires long hours and travel work as job duties demand.


Travel: Travel is required for this position to customer sites with out-of-area and possible overnight travel expected.
