Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience, AWHONN Intermediate certification, and a valid LA or compact RN license.

Details
  • Labor & Delivery unit in a hospital setting with 12 rooms and a daily census of approximately 5 patients
  • Patient population includes labor, pre-eclampsia, PPROM, and OB ED presentations
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:30–07:00
  • Every other weekend coverage required
  • Nurses will also assist in staffing the OB triage area, evaluating a variety of pregnancy-related concerns including labor checks, decreased fetal movement, hypertension, ruptured membranes, bleeding, and other urgent OB complaints
  • Birthing tubs are used on the unit
  • Orientation is held 5 days a week
Requirements
  • Active LA or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, FHM, NRP, AWHONN Beginner, and AWHONN Intermediate (AHA-issued certifications required)
  • Preferred certification: AWHONN Advanced
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
  • Proficiency in L&D skills including C-section circulator, initial newborn care, hemorrhage/shock management, fetal monitoring (external and internal), magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin administration, and OB triage
  • Ability to perform rapid assessments, medical screening exams, and fetal monitoring in a triage setting
  • 2 Manager/Supervisor references required prior to start (Charge RNs are not acceptable)
  • NURSYS report required (must be current within 4 weeks)
Additional Information
  • Responsibilities include C-section circulator duties, initial newborn care, antepartum and postpartum care, OB triage assessments, and management of high-risk deliveries
  • Nurses must be comfortable with rapid assessments and frequent patient flow in the triage area throughout the day and night
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must live 65+ miles from the facility to be eligible — local travelers are not accepted
  • Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have been separated from the Ochsner Health System for at least 1 full year before returning as a traveler
  • RTO requests must be discussed during the interview
  • In the event of an emergency, nurses may be assigned to an emergency team and expected to remain at the facility until the event passes or serve on a relief team
