6194 Monitor Tech ServicesThe Telemetry Monitor Technician role ensures that remote monitoring of patient's cardiac rhythm occurs as ordered by the physician and as described in the KH policy.

QUALIFICATIONS


Education
Required: Must complete an Advanced Arrhythmia course and exam with a minimum score of 85% within 60 days of hire/transfer. Exam must be passed by the second attempt and if unsuccessful employee is subject to termination.
Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
Required: Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities attained through successful completion of a formal healthcare training program such as CNA, EMT/Paramedic, medical Assistant, or completion of 1st semester of RN program or One year of recent employment in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or healthcare setting.
Preferred: Telemetry Monitor Tech experience or completion of EKG/Cardiac Monitoring course


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Observes, monitors, reviews, and documents each patient's cardiac rhythm and may include blood pressure and SpO2.
Differentiates between lethal and non-lethal arrhythmias and notifies the RN promptly of any new dysrhythmias or cardiac variances.
Observes, reports and documents cardiac arrhythmias, artifact, leads off, proper lead placement and subtle changes in cardiac rhythm to RN caring for the patient.
Measures rate and ECG intervals of patients' heart rhythm patterns on a graphic tape readout.
Identifies and correctly interprets baseline heart rhythm including notation of the information on the rhythm strip.
Maintains appropriate alarm limits and verifies alarms parameters are set for all monitored equipment.
Prints strips with every arrhythmia/dysrhythmia variance or a minimum of once every shift.
Promptly reports to Clinical Engineering any malfunction of the cardiac monitoring system or central station equipment.
Maintains an adequate supply of monitoring materials.
Assists in the orientation and teaching of new Monitor Technicians.
Follows Standards of Practice developed for Central Telemetry.
Completes with a passing score the yearly competency for arrhythmia recognition.


Addendum (essential for specific dept)
Central Monitoring CoordinatorIs a primary resource for staff in the Central Monitoring Room. Is a role model for staff. Provides coordination and support through effective problem solving and decision making. Supports new employees during orientation. Oversees and coordinates central telemetry activities including daily tracking of equipment, notifying the department charge nurse or managers regarding any missing equipment and reporting equipment and system malfunction to ISS or Clinical Engineering. Coordinates staffing needs including balancing schedules and approving shift trades for Telemetry Monitor Techs. Provides coverage for lunch and breaks for Tele Sitters. Understands and utilizes the Kaweah Health's chain of command.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
