Travel MRI technologists are usually independent contractors who perform a variety of procedures with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines at different healthcare facilities. As a travel MRI technologist, you contract with medical facilities that are short-staffed. Your job duties include examining the devices to ensure they are working correctly, meeting with patients to discuss what they can expect during the procedure, and running the machines to take scans of the patients. Once the process is complete, you send off the images to be analyzed by a radiologist. Because you are an independent contractor, you may decide which jobs to take and how far you are willing to travel.
