Job description

Northstar Travel Group is the largest and most trusted B2B travel media and information company in the world. At Northstar, our mission is to be the leading global provider of trusted information and experiences for the audiences that drive the travel industry, while delivering innovative and high-performing marketing solutions to the businesses seeking to engage them.

Northstar Meetings Group is a division of Northstar Travel Group with a deep history of brands that serve a large and influential audience of business event professionals. The Meetings Group editorial team develops original content that informs, educates and engages this community, always with a focus on making meeting professionals’ jobs easier. We take pride in this content in all forms, whether we are writing news stories, how-to articles or destination guides; conducting research studies and analysis; developing and facilitating live webinars; posting on our social media platforms; collaborating on video projects or lining up sessions for our live events. Maintaining editorial integrity and producing high-quality content are always our ultimate goals.

We’re looking to add a multitalented editor to our collaborative team, someone with a journalistic sense for storytelling and the skills to write engagingly, with clarity and accuracy, for a professional audience. Candidates should be comfortable writing for various platforms, whether for an online news story, newsletter, magazine feature or engaging social media post. A familiarity with the travel and event professions is a bonus, but you’ll learn quickly from our seasoned team, and you’ll have ample opportunity for travel and to experience industry events. This job will offer plenty of opportunities to grow or to specialize, given the diverse nature of content; if you have a knack for video or podcasting, for instance, or if you’re a natural on camera or onstage, we’ll ensure those skills are put to good use.

We encourage you to watch this informative video here to gain a deeper understanding of the responsibilities, expectations and opportunities associated with this exciting role! This will provide valuable insights into our company culture and the exciting projects you'll be working on.

This is a remote position and is open to candidates based in the United States. We also have an office in Rutherford, New Jersey, for those who favor being in an office a few days a week.

What You’ll Do:

  • Write and edit about news, trends and hot-button issues for event professionals — which covers a wide range of topics, from travel to technology to geopolitics to business case studies
  • Post compelling content to our social media channels
  • Stay on top of your industry and geographical beats, ensuring we cover big news when it happens and developing relationships with the public relations and marketing people who promote those organizations or destinations
  • Help to support our group’s marketing initiatives for our events, research, awards and more
  • Travel to various industry and Northstar Meetings Group events, representing Northstar and providing on-location coverage/content (and logistical support when needed)
  • Eventually, develop and facilitate webinars on specific topics
  • Collaborate with the editorial content team through frequent online meetings and stepping in to help wherever needed

What You Have:

  • 2–4 years of professional editorial experience
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Strong command of AP style
  • Experience working within a CMS environment
  • Solid understanding of SEO best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to craft concise, engaging social media copy and familiarity with major platforms
  • Excellent organizational skills and comfort managing multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong collaboration skills paired with the ability to drive projects independently
  • Experience with podcasting and/or video production is a plus
  • Knowledge of the travel and/or events industries is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
