What is a travel counsellor?

Travel Counsellors are professionals who provide personalized travel advice, planning, and booking services to clients. They assist with everything from flights and accommodation to tours, travel insurance, and visas, often tailoring their services to meet individual needs and preferences. Travel Counsellors may work independently, for travel agencies, or for specialist travel companies, and they use their expertise to ensure clients have a smooth and enjoyable travel experience. Their knowledge of destinations, travel regulations, and industry trends allows them to offer recommendations and handle any issues that arise during the trip.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a travel counsellor?

To thrive as a Travel Counsellor, you need a strong knowledge of travel products, destinations, and sales techniques, often supported by relevant qualifications such as a diploma in travel and tourism. Familiarity with Global Distribution Systems (GDS) like Amadeus or Sabre and booking platforms is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help build trust with clients and handle complex itineraries. These skills and qualities ensure clients receive personalized, accurate, and seamless travel experiences, fostering repeat business and customer satisfaction.
