Job description

The Surgical Trauma ICU at IFMC is seeking a full-time experienced ICU Registered Nurse.
3 x 12-hour shifts/week - Night Shift
Sign on Bonus and Relocation bonus available.
The Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is a high acuity, 18-bed unit designated for the most seriously ill or injured trauma patients. The Inova Trauma Center specialists provide rapid response to surrounding counties and states within a 200-mile radius from the hospital. The Trauma ICU is committed to facilitating a comprehensive continuum of care for our patients beginning with the "Golden Hour" of trauma resuscitation and extending beyond their discharge. Trauma ICU nurses act as designated trauma bay responders to work in tandem with Trauma Surgeons and Emergency Department staff to respond to critically ill trauma patients the moment they enter the ED/ Trauma Bay.
This integrated trauma team approach facilitates excellence in teamwork and enhances the ability of the Trauma ICU nurse to understand all phases of trauma recovery process. The Inova Trauma Center serves a population of more than 3,500 trauma patients annually in addition to surgical patients experiencing hemorrhagic shock and/or post-operative patients under the consultation of a Trauma/Acute Care Surgeon.
The Inova Trauma Center is Northern Virginia's only Level 1 Trauma Center and one of only 73 Level 1 trauma centers recognized across the U.S by the ACS. Care needs for our patients may include, but are not limited to patients requiring:

  • Invasive hemodynamic and/or cardiac monitoring
  • Massive Transfusion Protocol
  • Intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Intubation and mechanical ventilation with or without advanced modalities
  • Intravenous administration of vasoactive medications
  • Post-operative recovery for extensive surgical procedures
  • Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as an ICU RN. 
  • Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. 
    If RN has an Associate's Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • Certifications: BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification required and ACLS strongly preferred (must obtain within first 3 months)
  • Licensure: RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a RN


Preferred qualifications:

  • 2+ years of ICU RN experience.
