Job description

About this position Position Summary

The Account Manager manages customer relationships and coordinates freight from pickup through final delivery. This role works closely with customers, carriers, and internal teams to provide reliable service, protect profitability, resolve shipment issues, and grow assigned accounts within the brokerage department.

Job Type: Full-time, W2, In-Office
Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 8:00 AMโ€“5:00 PM CDT
Work Setting: Fast-paced logistics environment

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily communication and service expectations for assigned customers.
  • Coordinate freight from pickup through final delivery and monitor every load for timely execution.
  • Enter, update, and maintain accurate load information in the transportation management system.
  • Provide customers with proactive and timely shipment updates, including delays and service concerns.
  • Work closely with carrier sales, dispatch, tracking, safety, and accounting teams.
  • Schedule pickup and delivery appointments and confirm all shipment requirements.
  • Address delays, missed appointments, service failures, and other shipment-related issues promptly.
  • Negotiate customer rates while maintaining competitive pricing and profitable margins.
  • Monitor revenue, gross profit, and overall performance for assigned accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with customers and carrier partners.
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and accessorial charges, including detention and lumper fees.
  • Collect PODs, rate confirmations, and other required shipment documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and secure additional freight.
  • Maintain clear records of customer communication, load activity, and issue resolution.
  • Follow company procedures and applicable transportation and safety requirements.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in logistics, freight brokerage, account management, dispatch, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong customer service, relationship-management, and professional communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of freight rates, lanes, equipment types, and transportation market conditions.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments, deadlines, and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with transportation management systems, Microsoft Office, email, and related technology.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, responsive, and professional during urgent or high-pressure situations.
Performance Expectations
  • Maintain strong customer satisfaction, responsiveness, and account retention.
  • Meet established revenue and gross-profit targets for assigned accounts.
  • Provide accurate and timely shipment updates and maintain complete load records.
  • Minimize service failures and take ownership of issues through resolution.
  • Support continued account growth by identifying and pursuing additional business opportunities.
Work Environment

This position operates in a fast-paced logistics brokerage environment and requires frequent communication with customers, carriers, drivers, and internal departments. Occasional after-hours availability may be required to address urgent shipment-related matters.

Compensation

$60,000โ€“$85,000 annually, based on experience and the company's compensation structure.
