Transportation Manager

Location: Groveland, Florida

Position Overview: The Transportation Manager will ensure safe, legal, and timely delivery of freight to member stores throughout the assigned territory. The Transportation Manager provides direction and oversight of all transportation-related functions at his/her assigned territory and associated transportation hubs. This role may be on a route as needed for business operations.

Schedule: Monday through Friday with occasional after-hours or weekends as needed

Responsibilities

1. Responsible for direction and coordination of route drivers to ensure maximum performance relative to product delivery, service, and good customer relations

2. Ensure customer complaints are investigated and resolved related to in-store service and delivery

3. Ensures full compliance with all company quality assurance standards

4. Develops annual cost savings initiatives that are aligned with the company's strategic plan

5. Manage the department's annual operating budget and assist in cost analysis

6. Oversee the hiring, supervision, scheduling, and termination of personnel.

7. Effectively schedules, supervises, and directs transportation personnel

8. Monitors Driver performance weekly through Motive and Ortec. Counsels Drivers on performance issues and areas for improvement.

9. Creates a team-oriented environment by developing supervisors, conducting performance appraisals, and communicating updates to processes, procedures, and policies

10. Ensures that personnel understand and implement safety and regulatory policies and procedures

11. Manage fleet utilization, tracking status of vehicle/equipment, monitoring equipment on the Out of Service report, and holding all equipment service providers accountable for repairs identified within DVIRs and PM's.

12. Ensures compliance with DOT hours of service by giving immediate feedback and taking corrective action when they become aware of HOS issues. Supervisors will utilize the NDCP standard disciplinary action outlined by the driver's expectations that corresponds to the risk of the violation.

13. Works with the Safety Manager on proper safe driving techniques while using the  Motive AI Cameras system to identify risky behaviors, proper lifting, and training in all required DOT regulations.

14. Performs other duties as assigned

Supervision exercised: Yes; this role will supervise Transportation Supervisors, a team of 3, with oversight of a department of approximately 90+ associates that includes Drivers, Delivery assistants, and Dispatch.

Qualifications
  • BS/BA preferred 
  • 5-7 years of multi-state transportation management experience in the food distribution industry 
  • Demonstrated mastery of the Federal Motor Carrier Rules and Regulations 
  • Knowledgeable of related OSHA standards and regulations 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel 
  • Manhattan Active and SAP experience preferred. 
  • On Board Computer System Experience required, Motive preferred. 
  • Prior experience with routing software, Ortec preferred. 
  • Experience with 3rd-party maintenance vendors 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities required 
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills required 
  • Willing and able to work flexible/extended work schedules, as needed 
  • Class A CDL preferred
